HOMECOMING AT THE ZOO
WRITTEN BY:
Nora Matland
For the first time in three years, we hosted Homecoming at ICO this September. Because this year is also an important milestone in the history of ICO, we worked hard to find the perfect venue. Homecoming took place amongst the lions at the Lincoln Park Zoo. (Don’t worry, the glass protected our guests from getting too close to them!)

This zoo holds particular importance because of its historic significance. Founded in 1868, it has served as an iconic Chicago institution for many generations. We’re only four years younger so it seemed fitting to celebrate together. The Homecoming celebration began on Friday night with jungle-themed drinks and food in the courtyard. It was a great opportunity for students and alumni to mingle and get to know each other better.
After Friday's gathering, Saturday was jam-packed with events. The day started with the first 50-Year Club lunch in three years. This year’s cohort included the Classes of 1970, 1971, and 1972. After lunch, there was a river boat architecture tour. Then the big reception was held! This started with an invite-only award ceremony. We recognized not only this year’s alumni award recipients but also those from 2021 and 2020. We ended the celebrations on Sunday with a CE event on myopia management.

It was wonderful to see so many faces after such a long time. We hope you had a great time!
