ICO continues to find new ways to raise awareness about optometry. Over the past three years, in collaboration with Connor Robbs, OD ’22, we’ve hosted nearly 40 high school classes in the IEI. This outreach is now also growing into larger events. On May 7, we welcomed over 60 students from Bronzeville Classical School and Ra Messu-t Academy of Higher Learning. This was made possible thanks to the efforts of ICO board member and Bronzeville resident Nicole Wheatly and Dr. Robbs.
Students learned about eye health, how systemic diseases affect vision, and what it takes to become an optometrist. They toured the campus and ended the day by examining their classmates' eyes in the lab.
Thank you to Dr. Robbs, Nicole Wheatly, and the ICO SVOSH members who volunteered during finals week to help facilitate the day. It's always inspiring to see our community come together to strengthen ICO.
